READY FOR BLAST OFF! Leicester launches the next round of the Mind Sports National Qualifiers

Plymouth, United Kingdom (20 May, 2014) - Mind Sports Academy, part of Mind Sports (International) Ltd, is pleased to announce that we will be challenging the UK’s most talented minds at a location that will see them reaching for the stars! The National Space Centre in Leicester will play host to the city’s first Mind Sports Academy event as part of our national tour around the UK. The event will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2014 from 9am to 6pm.

Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to the event; either to play for free or buy in to cash prize tournaments and win a seat at our World Championships at London’s ExCel in November this year.

We are excited to announce that the popular eSports titles Hearthstone® and Starcraft II® will continue as part of the Mind Sports Academy tour alongside Chess, Scrabble and Magic: The Gathering.

With experienced eSports tournament organisers Multiplay on hand to provide a high-quality gaming experience, Leicester will be the third Academy tour stop to incorporate live eSports tournament play on the path towards the Mind Sports International World Championship.

Parent company, Mind Sports International brand Ambassador, Rachel Riley, feels the Academy is a great avenue for new and existing Mind Sport's fans, "Mind Sports International is providing a great community for mind sports players to meet like-minded people and compete in good spirit for truly rewarding prizes."

Since January 2014 monthly events have been held across the country where intellectual sports enthusiasts and newcomers to the games will be able to learn, train and compete at as many events as they wish. Over the course of the year Mind Sports Academy events will visit 10 different cities and distribute over £40,000 in cash and prizes.

Dave Brannan, CEO of the Mind Sports (International) brand believes there are a great deal of people that have been waiting for the creation of an Academy structure, “Mind Sports are just that, sports where player’s brains are doing the exercising and the MSI Academy helps them improve and compete in their intellectual sport of choice.”

“We also hope to ignite interest from those who have previously not considered playing the likes of Chess, Scrabble and Magic: The Gathering as these mind sports not only have learning benefits, but they are seriously fun!”

The event, which is open to any member of the public to both attend and take part, includes a wide variety of tournament play in Chess, Scrabble and Magic: The Gathering. There will be taster sessions each day at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm for you to learn more about the different mind sports or even ease you back into a game you may not have played in a long time.

Leicester’s Mind Sports Academy event will also offer a world of discovery with ‘Coaching Tournaments’ for Chess where an experienced Chess trainer will be available between games in order to provide feedback and coaching to all players participating to help improve their game and strategy.

In addition, the event not only offers great game play for all those who attend, but the chance to access the National Space Centre exhibition for free for those who register for their tournament passes ahead of the event.

The Academy events compliment our rapidly growing online community on, where members enjoy discounts at events, exclusive training videos and interactive games, as well as the opportunity to discuss these games with like-minded people in our online forum.

The idea for the Mind Sports Academy came about thanks to the growing global demand for more organised mind sports events and integration programmes with clubs and schools. The development of a membership programme gives players and clubs the opportunity to become a part of what will become a worldwide network that participates in structured events and general community engagement.

The first of its kind, the Mind Sports Academy offers individuals and groups an array of learning and training opportunities. An associated education programme introduces children to the importance of strategic thinking and improves cognitive skills.

All Academy events lead to the Mind Sports International World Championships at the prestigious ExCel in London November 19-23 2014, with a £10,000 prize fund. Winning players at the Aintree event will get the opportunity to compete in the finals in London alongside fellow enthusiasts from across the world.
